POPTY DAY WORKSHOP
SCREENPRINTING with esther williams
Saturday 5 April 2025 • 10am–4pm
After falling in love with her exquisite illustrations, we are very excited that Esther Williams has agreed to run a screenprinting workshop to share her love of Welsh plants and folklore.
Tea and coffee provided, shared lunch • Limited to six participants • £75 per person to include beautiful inks and papers and a set of wooden poster hangers
About Esther… Esther is a botanical illustrator, photographer, writer and researcher, whose work celebrates Welsh plants, folklore and the floral heritage of Cymru, promoting deeper human-plant relationships.
Based in Pembrokeshire, she runs the grow-your-own business herb & all, hand making illustrated seed-kits, cards and prints, with a focus on Welsh plant names and folklore. She also writes the monthly newsletter Wild Welsh Plants: photo-essays about local wildflowers and Welsh nomenclature.
As well as achieving a BA in Music and Visual Art and an MSc in Decolonising Botanic Gardens, Esther has previously run artisan screen-printing and bookbinding businesses in Somerset, including delivering workshops with Exeter Phoenix Arts Venue and Taunton Brewhouse.
About the workshop… In this one-day workshop Esther will help us to celebrate and promote the botanical heritage of Cymru by drawing and printing Welsh plants, while learning Welsh plant names, and unearthing botanical tales about the role of herbs in Welsh history and folklore.
You will learn how to create images using paper stencils and add text using a digital screenmaker and pre-exposed screens. You will learn how to register stencils to create multi-coloured images and how to use a squeegee to print your images onto paper.
No screenprinting experience needed, but this workshop will suit adults with some drawing experience.
